My Dryer Ran Three Times Per Load Until I Found the Real Problem

I started noticing it in early fall. One load of towels that used to finish in forty-five minutes now took three full cycles to come out dry.

Then it was jeans. Then sheets. By October, every single load meant punching the button at least twice, sometimes three times, and laundry day turned into a four-hour slog.

The obvious culprit? I checked the lint trap after every load. Spotless. I even held it up to the light like they tell you to do, making sure detergent residue wasn’t clogging the screen.

Nothing.

The dryer was running. The drum was tumbling. I could feel warm air when I opened the door mid-cycle. But forty-five minutes later, everything came out cool and damp, like the heat was going somewhere it shouldn’t.

I assumed the heating element was dying. Maybe the thermostat. I started budgeting for a new dryer—probably $600 if I wanted something decent from Home Depot.
